No longer are you isolated from the outside world in your airplane. The Aviation Unit provides you with clear telephone communications and Internet access in your aircraft cockpit or cabin. And it works at any altitude anywhere in the world.
No dead zones, no altitude restrictions, no eavesdropping, and no unreliable data connections with Aviation Unit's Iridium® all digital satellite technology.

All calls, voice or data, go from the aircraft's Iridium antenna through one or more Iridium® Low-Earth-Orbit satellites and then down to a ground station. The ground station then routes voice calls over normal land-lines, while Internet calls go directly to the Internet backbone. All telephone calls use the latest digital technology to insure excellent voice quality and security.

The Internet connection allows any laptop computer to access the Internet using standard web browsers and e-mail software. Compression software gives Internet access the equivalent of a 10 K-baud connection. In-flight weather can be accessed through DUATs and other weather sources. There are no additional fees for Internet access beyond the standard connection rate. A spoofing technique saves money by momentarily disconnecting from the Internet during periods of inactivity. An Iridium® Internet connection kit is required for dialed data calls and Internet access, headset to make voice calls. Flight crew may monitor ATC communications while call is in progress. You can receive calls while in flight in the cockpit. An incoming ring will sound in your headset and the phone can be set to auto-answer after a set number of rings.
The complete Aviation Unit system is portable, enabling it to be easily moved from aircraft to aircraft with the exception of the antenna.
It requires a 9-volt DC battery. Your aviation headset plugs into jacks on the Aviation Unit audio controller. A cable with headphone and microphone plugs is supplied to allow an easy connection to your aircraft audio system.
